Early Childhood Yoga: Great Teen Yoga Starts Here
In an ideal world, every child would have access to yoga, or an equivalent wellness practice, as early as 3 years old. Integrating yoga into preschool curriculum is a wonderful way to set young children on a path of healthy self awareness.
Having taught yoga in preschools for 13+ years, I know it works! I am excited to share a few gems “born of the experience” this month in our blog. To kick it off, we are giving away this package of early childhood yoga gifts:
Move With Me Action Adventures The Magic Scooter – Kids Yoga DVD for Strength and Resilience
#1 Yoga Story DVD from the Scooter & Me series combines yoga, creative movement and Brain Gym for an active play movement adventure kids love. Develops focus, fitness and coordination; introduces universal values such as kindness and courage; and teaches Adventure Skills, which are simple exercises kids can use to calm and center themselves when angry, frustrated, confused, scared or sad.
Here’s what one educator has to say about the Move with Me DVD series:
The Move with Me DVDs are so much more than kids exercise DVDs. They are a terrific enhancement to our curriculum by truly supporting all developmental tasks and standards in an engaging, experiential, integrated way. We use them for PE and motor skills, early literacy and creative thinking, direction following and concentration as well as social-emotional learning and impulse control. Teachers are all using the “Adventure Skills” because they give kids behaviors/activities that they can use to pause and support themselves. Now, kids are not just controlling their impulses, they are learning how to redirect their thoughts and choices in a positive way, which really shifts and empowers them. -Mike Russo, Director of the Davis Monthan Air Force Base Child Dev Center
Give your kids the daily exercise they need and playtime they crave even when you are busy or they can’t go outside.
Eye to Eye Vol. One by Gloria Walther
You can rapidly become a far more joyful parent, foster your young child’s enthusiasm, cultivate a sense of cooperation, and truly connect with your child by coming Eye to Eye with them. Eye to Eye is a touching, practical, and often humorous book that centers on loving, respecting, and honoring your children. Based on Gloria Walther’s over 30 years of guiding three to five-year-old children in mastering a wide range of life and social skills, Eye to Eye teaches parents how to be the happy and loving parents they truly want to be. It is centered around Gloria’s numerous, highly entertaining and extremely effective teaching stories. As such, it is a both informative and empowering read. It tackles a wide variety of situations and behaviors, teaching parents and educators the importance of presenting children with choices, of following a child’s lead, and of teaching children the rules of effective social interaction. It shows how to stimulate and support a child’s passion, and how to use music, art, color, and sound in a child’s holistic development. Parents, grandparents, teachers, and friends will learn the importance of speaking softly, honestly, and directly to children, and really listening to what a child has to say. Three to five-year-olds are capable of so much – learning, sharing, cooperating, creating, problem solving – yet adults often find themselves without the tools to know how to bring out the best in their youngest. Eye to Eye provides these tools.

What a great giveaway combo! I would love to have all of these to use with the kids & families I work with at the JD McCarty Center for Children with Developmental Disabilities in Norman, Oklahoma. It would help support carryover of yoga with kids outside of the weekly therapeutic yoga class I do there. The Eye to Eye book would be fabulous to have as a resource to share with parents I work with since parents of kids with special needs face extra challenges. Thanks for offering such a cool package!

I received your Shanti Generation DVD for my 8 year old yesterday afternoon. We did one of the paths after school and she woke up early before school to do it again before she had breakfast. She has a younger sister (4) that tried to participate, but it was a advanced for her. The Move with Me DVD sounds a bit more for her. Thank you so much, these age appropriate Yoga DVD releases are an absolute godsend!

If it is written to parents and you are recommending it to teachers as well then it follows that it will
surely be a great resource for homeschool parents. Can’t wait to read it. It is on my summer reading list.
